Even the cholesterol in

 This is digital imaging of the
retina for first signs of atheroma, cholesterol in arteries, which mirrors
coronary arteries. We can now diagnose glaucoma by photometric overlays of
images showing the slightest changes in vessels compared with previous
images, a method published by Sydney J Bush in the early '90s and
named
"SPOAG" = Sequential Photometric Overlays Alerting Glaucoma.
In our jargon optometrists refer to simple glaucoma as Primary Open Angle
Glaucoma or POAG!
 We are
hoping this latter will lead to the much earlier diagnosis of glaucoma,
long before there is actual and irreversible NERVE damage resulting in the
characteristic visual field changes especially in low tension cases, thus
avoiding detectable losses in the visual fields as shown by the now
common computer programmed flashing light field tests.
Now
that some leading eye surgeons have abandoned the laser operation because
so many studies are showing 70% and 80% of eyes have been damaged,
resulting in impaired night vision, with disqualification of laser
operated people from entering the emergency services, commercial flying,
and even in some cases from holding driving licences in Germany, it is
expected that soft contact lenses will rapidly become even more
popular. This is especially as the Laser fails to address the
problem of changes in focus and ageing eyes needing reading help. Also
the modern contact lens prevents light induced CATARACT because it absorbs
ULTRAVIOLET light, increasingly dangerous with depletion of the ozone
layer.
