| Bush Opticians was established by
Herman Bush (1830-1888) one of the first opticians in Hull. He made
his own frames from solid gold and is mentioned for his good works in the
most authoritative reference 'History of Hull' by McMahon and Gillett.
He was also an exceptionally
fine watchmaker, jeweller, translator and publisher with his own page in
the learned monthly journal of that period.

He was followed by Joseph
(1867 - 1933) who carried on the tradition and was one of the first to
qualify as a Fellow of the British Optical Association.

Herman (1905 - 1988) helped
to re-equip the ophthalmic profession after the war, exporting consulting
room equipment, microscopes, hydraulic columns and improved refractors
newly developed by us in Hull to 40 or more countries. Every other
practice in the UK bought the EYCO (East Yorkshire Optical Co.) lens power
analyser (focimeter).
